Allen Institute’s incoming President and CEO

In December, we were delighted to announce neuroscientist Rui Costa, D.V.M., Ph.D., as our next president and chief executive officer. Costa comes to the Allen Institute from the Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute at Columbia University in New York, where he has served as CEO since 2017.

Naked mole rats don’t show signs of old age, but their DNA says otherwise

These hairless, wrinkly rodents are freaking weird: Perhaps the weirdest thing about naked mole rats is that they don’t seem to age, at least not in the way we understand aging. A new study from Allen Distinguished Investigator Steve Horvath finds a biological clock that shows traces of these rodents’ aging on their DNA.

The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group announced 11 new projects, totaling $15.5M in research funding, led by 23 investigators who are breaking new ground in mammalian synthetic biology, the neuroscience of under-studied animals, and tiny proteins involved in immunity.
